The old town of Hoi An should be on everyone’s list when they travel to Vietnam, it was definitely one of my favourites. Firstly, in the old town itself, there are no cars and scooters are limited so you are free to wander without the risk of being run over. Secondly, if you want something made this is the place to go. I got some leather goods and silver jewellery made, I’m fussy about both and had amazing results from the local craftsmen here. And lastly, the lanterns as the sun is setting makes for some amazing visuals, especially with the architecture in the background.
The first day I was here, I didn’t know how I would spend a few days, but I truly immersed myself and didn’t want to leave. There are cooking classes aplenty (check out Green Mango) and to waste a day while waiting to get some goods made take a trip out to the My Son ruins (blog coming). Or my favourite way to pass time was to grab a drink and a bite to eat, sit roadside and watch the world travel past.
